I hesitate to even speak of it before I am on the ground in Las Vegas but here goes … I am an NAB virgin. Over a near decade of working in the post production industry I’ve had a number of opportunities to go to NAB but something has always got in the way. There was the year I got sick … the year the client ending up not having the cash to send us … the year we were all set up to go and the job didn’t get done and we had to bail (but at least I got a Southwest credit) … to name a few. But this year I hope is the one. From what I understand it’s quite the mad-house. There’s parties and people and classes not to mention the huge expo that seems to stretch from building to building, hotel to hotel. I have no clue where my hotel is but from what I understand all of Vegas isn’t more than a walk, cab or monorail away. My first thought was I’ve got to get the batteries and on my video camera, my DSLR, my iPod and my Macbook all charged up. But then I thought about lugging stuff around and was advised to travel around the event as light as possible. So I think all of those things will stay at home. I’ll really see if the iPhone is truly up to the test of being a one-device-t0-rule-them-all around a big trade show. Hopefully there will be time to sit down at an Internet connection or two and throw up a few posts about the event. There’s usually enough good coverage on the ‘net that you can get a good sense of what’s going on without ever being there. I’m just looking forward to this being the year that I am there. I’m planning to post some pictures on the Editblog via Flickr so check those out as well if you wish.
A good piece of advice I got is wear comfortable shoes. Now the only other question that I have … is there good swag?
