A little over a week ago Jim Jannard of RED announced that Adobe Premiere and After Effects will support RED R3D files natively. Apparently there were a few bugs to be worked out but the latest update today says that it will be ready this Friday.
Looking as Adobe’s work with other RAW cameras like the Silicon imaging SI-2K this announcement is not surprising. Adobe seems much better positioned than either Apple or Avid to handle RAW workflows. RAW acquisition is likely to continue to grow this could prove to be thing that finally makes professional editors look to Premiere, which, heretofore, has been a third-party candidate of NLEs. Call it the Libertarian NLE. With the RAW capabilities and CS4 on the time-horizon, Premiere may generate enough buzz to break the two-party system forever.
