Yes, if it performs as promised, Avid’s new Interplay asset-management system, based on the technology it acquired from Alienbrain, will help simplify and streamline workflows for all kinds of facilities. But Avid announced other interesting products for editors who are demanding that their tools become ever more flexible, including a $5,000 software-only version of Media Composer that will finally allow Avid editors to take that show on the road as well as a 36 Mbps variation of its DNxHD codec meant to enable HD offline applications. The company hopes it will offer an especially good balance between quality and efficiency for HD dailies.
