Creative Director/Cofounder of Quiet Man Johnnie Semerad steps up to answer five questions.
1. What are you working on today?
We always have a number of projects going on. Today, we’ve been working on jobs for Pizza Hut, Pepsi, Progressive, and Chester Cheetos.
2. What have you found is the best tool or innovation that has come out in the last year?
The Foundry Sparks are plug-in visual effects for Autodesk systems. They are actual functional and problem-solving sparks. They take out things like dirt and stabilize shots. Needless to say, they’ve been very useful around here.
3. The project (film, television, commercial or music video) that most impressed you in the last year? Why?
Avatar: The Last AirBender. I’m an avid fan of anime. Anime is generally in the form of movies because it takes years to develop the high quality of animation you see in this genre. But this show allows me to get my fix weekly. Not to mention I enjoy watching it every week with my two daughters.
4. The best or favorite project that you worked on in the past year? And why?
In the past year, my favorite project was the GE spot via BBDO, “Singin in the Rain.” It required not only technical finesse but artistry. It was such a thrill to bring a character like this to life with such seamless CGI. Along those lines, our “One Second Theater” was also a bonus for me. BBDO originally came to us for help on this. And it took us a year, but we were able to create something similar to DVD extras except for television.
5. Name the top 4 artists on your iPod?
Shakira
High School Musical
Abba
American Idol
