WHY I LOVE IT: Channelstrip is a uniquely powerful compressor/gate/EQ
plug-in for ProTools and many other audio mixing and editing
applications. It gives me excellent sonic results while presenting a
very light load on the host or hardware processor and is super-fast and
easy to use.

Metric Halo’s Channelstrip is one of my favorite tools. It’s a breeze
to use, thanks to its simple‘all-in-one’ interface, and it sounds
flawless. And it is fast! Spending less time getting the basic EQ and
compression structure down on a show gives me more time to focus on the
creative aspects of the design and mix.

Channelstrip can be used dozens of times in a typical session without
hitting the processing ceiling on our ProTools HD-3 rigs. It is
super-efficient when it comes to DSP use, either on the TDM cards or
running as a host-based RTAS plug, without sacrificing its pristine
sound. And when working in 5.1 surround, that efficiency is crucial, as
a system that once seemed super-powerful in stereo can quickly show its
limits when asked to do the multi-format and down mixing required in
surround for DTV broadcast mixing.

As for how it sounds, Channelstrip can be a surgical EQ or leveling
device, or it can be used to sweeten or otherwise‘creatively alter’ the
sound passing through it. Because it is so efficient, I can use more of
my other plug-ins, like some of the more esoteric, DSP-hungry sound
design plugs. Effects that would normally have to be rendered using
Audiosuite plug-ins, due to a lack of available DSP, can now be set up
to be manipulated, in real time, in the mix. This gives me much more
flexibility and lets me keep all of my options open until the show hits
tape. And that’s important! With Channelstrip, I don’t just get a World
Class compressor/gate/EQ, I get the opportunity to do much more."
