“We share a heritage, going back to the last century and our days with early MTV,” said Ashley of Miller. “Most importantly, Company X has the kind of creative energy and talent that I love in a company. They have the drive to be evolutionary, to be experimental, working beyond the norm, be it short films, music videos and non-traditional advertising and media, anything that keeps the creative experience fresh, anything that enhances the core business of spot work, anything that we can bring to help realize the client’s vision.” Ashley stated that the business model of post is in a continuous state of flux, “and, with so many forms of the medium, you have to be versatile. Talent is still key, you have to be ‘light & tight’ offering a nimble hi tech work flow with talent and creativity. Company X embraces this and I’m excited to be a part of this next generation company.”
Ashley, who was born in Sydney, Australia, has lived in Fiji, the UK and the USA, has made a career of “keeping it fresh.” He has an interesting and eclectic background, having served in the Royal Australian Air Force as a pilot and worked for six years at the Seven Network in Sydney as a Technical Director. An ardent photographer, Ashley is a Patron of the International Center of Photography and a member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMY). He studied Computer Science at Macquarie University in Sydney and earned credit at the School of Visual Arts and New York University for writing, film and philosophy. His editorial resume spans documentaries, TV series, commercials, music videos and concerts. Some of his noteworthy projects include: the MTV "Buzz" TV series; the AIDS awareness documentaries Red Hot & Dance and Red Hot & Cool, the Michael Moore documentary Pets or Meat, film segments for the Beat Experience exhibition at New York’s Whitney Museum, and the “David Bowie & Friends” concert at Madison Square Garden.
This year, Ashley cut “In the Sun,” part of the Michael Stipe initiative for Hurricane Katrina relief. Helmed by director/rock and roll photographer Danny Clinch, the film aired on the Sundance Channel, and won a 2006 Telly Award.
In welcoming Ashley aboard, Company X Executive Producer Rachelle Way noted that “the talent on our roster is disposed to utilizing all of their creative abilities, and we’re excited to have Bruce on our ‘renaissance team’.”
