Tom Goldblatt, sound mixer/designer of Audio Engine, steps up to answer Five Questions.
1. What are you working on today?

A Humorous spot for PUMA sneakers. It’s a comedic look at the 1960’s space race between the then Soviet Republic, and America. It’s a complicated mix, with lots of sound design, and a great Old Russian marching song. It was challenging and fun to work on.

2. What have you found is the best tool or innovation that has come out in the last year?

Things are always changing so fast that I would be hard pressed to have one standout. Pro-Tools is the main program I use, and it receives the focus of my attention. It keeps getting better and better, with more and more innovations for it. I would be hard pressed to imagine working with out it.

3. The project (film, television, commercial or music video) that most impressed you in the last year? Why?

The Film “Good Night and Good luck.” Even though the events happened decades ago, the Film is still timely today with a message that everyone can benefit from. It was very well written, and the acting was excellent.

4. The best or favorite project that you worked on in the past year? And why?

The ESPN spots for the World Cup. I got to record Bono from U2, and Edit their music for the spots.
I’ve been a fan of U2 for 20 years, and to be able to actually work with them and on their music was a real thrill.
Bono was gracious and enthusiastic and everyone on the project was very excited about it, I think it all shows in the final spots.

5. Name the top 4 artists on your iPod?

The Beatles

U2
Peter Gabriel
Bob Marley
