HP was in New York as part of its global campaign to put a distinct, creative face on its brand. It seems to have taken a page out of Apple’s marketing book in order to connect with potential consumers.
While PCs have usually marketed themselves in terms of corporate efficiencies, price points and reliability, Apple has sought to put a friendly, sometimes quirky, always cool brand on its products. It is no surprise then that those entrenched as PC users general consider themselves content with their PC of choice and platform, while Mac users are almost fanatical about their computers.
HP, with the message “The Computer is Personal Again” is looking to get some fanaticism on its side with a highly stylized, print campaign, a commercial campaign that shows of the customized content of such cultural icons as Jay-Z and Mark Burnett.

Even the packaging the HP products come in are aimed at this directive. Now, buyers will receive their purchases with the colorful graphics of the new ad campaign rather than the simple, lowercased “hp” on the side of the box.

With HP’s long held commitment to providing complete solutions to a wide range of customers it seem they finally have an ad campaign that reflects it. The question remains, can PC user ever become passionate about their computers?

Along with the marketing message at the event there was also some real news, especially for the DCC market. HP introduced today a new workstation, the xw9400 featuring the next generation AMD Opteron 2000 series processor. The xe9400 offers dual core, dual processor power for high-end graphics and performance capabilities. Starting at just under $2,000, the xw9400 has the Nvidia nForce Professional 3000 chipset, enabling dual PCI Express x16 graphics slots.
