BBC Post Production London purchased a Digital Vision Film Master and DVNR with color-correction, dust-busting and D-grain. To be installed in February, the DV tools will be used in a data-based nonlinear environment, primarily for remastering.
Nigel Hadley, Digital Vision‘s director of training, will be in Los Angeles February 13 ‘ 18 to train colorists on the latest version of Film Master. The training will take place at Digital Vision’s Los Angeles facility, 4605 Lankershim Blvd., Suite 700, North Hollywood. da Vinci Systems released Version 4.6 of its Revival film repair and restoration system, which will offer a Dirt Matte tool supporting Kodak Digital ICE technology. Arriflex‘s Arriscan utilizes Digital ICE algorithms to generate a defect matte along with an image during the scanning process. Revival's new Dirt Matte feature reads the DPX file with the embedded defect matte to isolate and automatically remove dirt from new or archival images, without requiring further frame-by-frame analysis
Quantel announced today that veteran Quantel employee Tom McGowan has rejoined the company as its new CEO for North America. He will split his time between California and Quantel’s North American headquarters in Vienna, Virginia. McGowan first joined the company in 1982; he returns to Quantel after serving as Director of Broadcast Sales Operations, Midwest and Western states and national accounts for Avid Technologies.
Colorist Bob Curreri recently rejoined Riot in Santa Monica. His credits in commercials and music videos include the video “Helena” by the band My Chemical Romance, for which he won the 2006 MVPA Award for Best Color Correction. Curreri previously colored at Riot from 1999 to 2002, and returns to the company from The Syndicate.
da Vinci Systems‘ new version 4.1.2 of its 2K Plus system includes DI workflow enhancements. New features include support for digital projection standards, improved support for the Grass Valley Spirit 2K/4K telecine, enhanced ColorTrace capabilities, and enhanced support for Digital Vision's noise reducer in 2K data mode.
CinePostproduction in Berlin (pictured above) purchased a high-capacity BrightDrive media-sharing system for use in its subsidiary company Geyer Berlin, where it forms the primary infrastructure for creative content management and media sharing for SD and HD DI workflows. Shemaroo Entertainment in India also purchased a high-capacity BrightDrive media-sharing system with the aim of being able to perform simultaneous DI and post-production tasks.
Cine-tal released version 2.1 of its Cinemage software, which adds DVI and SD inputs. Cinemage now supports 3D LUTs from Quantel iQ, Discreet Flame, Assimilate Scratch, Kodak CMS, and FilmLight. Cine-tal also released a software development kit for custom software applications, automation and integration into existing software packages.
Rising Sun Research added a new Cinespace client services manager, Michael “Mike” Chenery, who played a leading role in developing Cinespace.
