Anyone that has ever worked as, worked with or seen a pro TV crew
knows the name PortaBrace. This Vermont company makes sturdy,
well-fitting and useful bags for just about any imaginable piece of
gear. Imagine my surprise when at NAB 2006 (last year) they came out
with their own line of hard cases. I quickly bought a pair, one for a
couple of Canon Eluras I use for rock & roll shoots and another,
larger one for my Canon XL2. The smaller one is perfect for the
Eluras, but the larger one was handicapped by the fact that the pick &
pluck foam inside is rather soft and to fill the interior, PB had to
use 4 separate pieces. This can wreak havoc when you take gear out of
the box.
Well, PB is a company that never rests on their laurels. At their
booth this morning, they were showing a new interior treatment –
padded foam sheets with Velcro attachments you arrange to your needs.
A great addition to a great, and reasonably priced, product.
