A More Precise Way to Set Up Camera Exposures

Leader Instruments now offers a way for directors and DPs to set up camera exposures more accurately than when using a luminance meter. By detecting the actual signal levels captured during pre-shoot line-up, rather than displaying local light intensity, the new Cinelite option allows a camera’s full dynamic range to be used. This could help reduce the time needed to correct color balance, gamma and contrast during post-production.
When an HD camera is connected via SDI or other interface to a Leader test instrument, the camera output is displayed on a 1024 x 768 pixel TFT LCD screen. Hairline cursors can then be used to select the brightest and darkest points in the scene. At the press of a button, Cinelite (which is sold as an option for Leader’s LV5700A, LV5750 or LV5800 instruments) shows the optimal exposure setting either as an f-stop or a percentage value.

When incorporated into the Leader LV5800 test and measurement device, four different points of interest on a live feed can be monitored simultaneously. The option also enables color shaders to fix undershot or overshot source material more efficiently.

The Cinelite option can be purchased for new and existing LV5700A, LV5750 and LV5800 instruments, which support 20 different video formats, including 1080i, 720p, 525i/59.94 and 625i/50.

The LV5800 allows simultaneous viewing of four SDI or HD-SDI sources. Screens and information shown on the display can be output to any compatible XGA monitor. Twin auto-detecting inputs make the LV5800 compliant with all HD-SDI and SD-SDI standards, including 1080p/50 via dual link.
