With features similar to the popular HVX200 HD camcorder but with a sturdier shoulder-mount configuration and three 2/3-inch CCDs, Panasonic‘s new AG-HPX500 is aiming to be the new workhorse camera of choice for a wide range of videographers and filmmakers.
The camera combines DVCPRO HD recording, 4:2:2 sampling and P2 flexibility with variable frame rates, interchangeable lenses and internal 19-bit processing for simultaneous HD/SD format conversion- all at a highly aggressive price point. Format support includes 1080/60i, 50i, 30p, 25 p, 24p and 720/60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, 24p, DVCPRO 50, DVCPRO and DV.
The HPX500 began shipping in May with a five-year limited warranty. $14,000. www.panasonic.com
