Jim Jannard of RED Digital Cinema recently posted sample images of RED One test footage at high ISO levels, including ISO 500 all the way up to 8000. Although the tests at these extremely high ISO levels were in fact shot with gain, it seems clear that RED camera operaters will be able to pull off some rather impressive (super-) low light shooting.
In related news, CamcorderInfo has posted RED image analysis results using Imatest, including enough charts and graphs to make your head spin. However, FresHDV is quick to note that potential discrepancies may exist in CCI’s tests: “The images that the Red crew have shared to date are in a colorspace which Imatest unfortunately cannot properly accomodate. This would explain the discrepancies and odd desaturation they noted in the color charts.”
Nevertheless, these latest ISO tests should give RED-heads something new to pore over (as they already have).
