Corel and NetBlender Team Up On a New Authoring Tool

Corel and NetBlender have teamed to create DoStudio MX, a new authoring tool for high-definition optical disks. The application, which works initially with HD DVD only, combines NetBlender’s visual editor for advanced content with Corel’s PureHD multiplexer.
The new software includes a graphical layout editor, Photoshop integration, IDE with code assist, a keyframe animation editor, a playlist editor, advanced logging, HD DVD multiplexing, and an image list manager. The companies said the software is easy to use and features a short learning curve.

Eventually, DoStudio MX will be a single environment for creating both HD DVD and Blu-ray discs. However, the companies said they launched the HD DVD version first “due to several market factors.” Blu-ray output, they said, “is not far behind” and will be added to the existing application.

A key breakthrough of DoStudio MX is its GUI. The new application handles most design and layout tasks visually, dramatically reducing the amount of code the author has to manipulate by hand. Scripts and Events can be added to any element on screen with DoStudio’s IDE, which opens with the click of a button.

The beta of DoStudio MX is offered as a monthly subscription, rather than for a flat fee. Regular software updates are included in the subscription fee. There is no long-term commitment required and users may turn their subscription on and off as needed.

During the beta period, DoStudio MX is being offered to a limited number of users and is priced at $99 a month. After the beta period, the cost will climb to $249 per month.
