Multibridge Pro Interface Device Connects "Every Video Device Known to Man"

Blackmagic Design has upped the ante on desktop video editing. Its new Multibridge Pro is a versatile Swiss-Army-knife approach to flexibility that moves beyond typical PCI Express video capture and playback devices.
Priced at $1,595, Blackmagic bills the Multibridge Pro as an interface device that connects “every video device known to man.” That includes capture and playback to any SDI, HDMI, analog component, analog composite NTSC/PAL, and S-Video device.
For audio, eight channels of AES/EBU digital audio, and two channels of balanced analog audio connections are included. All AES/EBU inputs feature internal sample-rate conversion for plug-and-play interconnectivity.

For the highest image quality, Multibridge Pro also includes dual-link 4:4:4 SDI video input and outputs, and each SDI link features the new 3 Gbps SDI video standard for SD, HD and 2K film compatibility.

Multibridge Pro is housed in a single-rack-unit chassis and connects to the host Macintosh OS X or Windows computer via a PCI Express cable. When PCI Express is connected, Multibridge Pro can be used as a capture and playback editing solution with Adobe Premiere Production Premium and Apple Final Cut Studio.

It can also be used as an independent bi-directional video-audio converter, allowing simplified interconnection of analog or HDMI equipment to SDI-based broadcast systems. This avoids the need for multiple outboard converters.

With support for 3 Gbps SDI connections, the device allows twice the SDI data rate of normal HD-SDI while retaining compatibility with normal HD-SDI and standard-definition SDI equipment. 3 Gbps SDI allows 4:4:4 video using a single BNC-type connection, and Blackmagic Design’s 2K-via-SDI function allows high-resolution, real-time 24 fps 2048 x 1556 feature-film editing.
