If you been editing the non-linear computer based software way for any period of time you probably have a few bare, “non-cased” hard drives lying around. You can always go to Comp USA and spend money on cheap enclosures but I find that I often don’t really use them enough to warrant buying a bunch of different enclosures. The latest issue of DV magazine pointed out a great little device from WeibeTech called the ComboDock v4:
It a hardware interface that allow you to plug up a bare hard drive without the hassle of installing it in an external case. Plug in the ribbon-style cable to the hard drive, plug it into power and then connect it to your computer via Firewire or USB. The docks are also available with Firewire only connections, SATA and a notebook version for 2.5″ drives.
