In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to simulate the opening of a videoconference by customizing a preset found in FXFactory Pro. A fully functional 15-day trial version of FxFactory is available for download
STEP 1: Apply the videoconference transition
Launch Apple Final Cut Pro, create a new sequence and edit two adjacent clips to the same track in the sequence. Click the edit point between the two clips to select it.
Choose Effects > Video Transitions > NI Transitions > Videoconference.
STEP 2: Change the duration of the transition
Set the duration of the transition by dragging either side of the transition. Make the transition as long as you desire.
STEP 3: Apply a Preset
FxFactory effects offer built-in presets that you can customize. Often, the results vary dramatically, depending on what preset you choose. It’s best to try several. Presets accelerate your workflow. With a few simple adjustments, you can give them a custom appearance. The Videoconference transition comes with two built-in presets: Front Facing and Acute Angle. Choose Acute Angle.
STEP 4: Change the shapes
Use the 12 point parameters (Top Left, Top Right, etc.) to specify the positions of the source and destination images when the transition is at its midpoint. The point parameters also let you set the shape and the location of reflections.
STEP: 5 Manipulate the background gradient
By default, the Videoconference transition creates a gradient background that goes from gray to black. If you want to change the color selection, you can click the color selector controls at the bottom of the filter controls.
STEP 6: You’re done
Now that the transition appears the way you want, you can save it as your own custom preset by clicking the Save As button at the top of the filter controls. Your transition should look like the image here.
