Seagate has recently agreed to settle a lawsuit and offer customers a cash refund or free backup and recovery software who purchased a hard drive within the past six years. Seagate has been overstating the total available capacity of their drives by 7% because of their misdefinition of a gigabyte as one billion bytes as opposed to the correct 1,073,741,824 bytes.
So, once the settlement is finally approved, you can submit an online claim form by March 10, 2008 if you bought a Seagate hard between March 22, 2001, and December 31, 2005.
