10 MPH is a documentary following the recent trend set by other super low budget, self-distributed indie films such as Four-Eyed Monsters, The Puffy Chair, LOL, et al, in which two “aspiring filmmakers…quit their jobs and turn a friend’s ludicrous idea into a movie. The impulsive purchase of a two-wheeled Segway scooter sets this story in motion when the two friends decide to travel from Seattle to Boston at 10 mph in an attempt to change their lives forever.”
The film has gone on to achieve a high level of acclaim and success, with 4,000 DVDs and 900 movie downloads sold, in addition to thousands of Netflix rentals and a successful limited theatrical run back in August. Anyway, the filmmaking duo behind 10 MPH has recently published an online document, the 10 MPH DIY Manual which details the promotion and self-distribtion exploits for the low budget film. For anyone interested in keeping tabs on the expanding world of low budget, self-distributed films and digital distribution, this manual is worth a read. It’s free in its web form, or you can download a PDF version for a dollar.
