Boris recently introduced the Boris Box Set, a full collection of most everything that Boris offers at one low price of $1995. This may be one of the better deals in recent memory, especially for Macintosh users. You get a lot of good stuff in this set:
The Macintosh box set includes:
* RED: Integrated 3D/2D Compositing, Titling, and Effects
* BCC AE: 180 Native Filters and Transitions for Adobe CS3
* BCC FxPlug: 180 Native Filters and Transitions for Apple Final Cut Studio 2
* BCC AVX: 180 Native Filters and Transitions for Avid Xpress Pro
* Final Effects Complete: Native Filters for Adobe, Apple, and Combustion
* Title Toolkit: Dynamic Titling Plug-ins for Adobe CS3
* Media 100 Producer Suite: Professional, easy-to-use video editing software
If you had absolutely no software on your shiny new Mac Pro and didn’t know a thing about how to use Final Cut Pro or any Avid application and wanted to outfit a comparable suite, it would cost ya…
Adobe After Effects CS3: $999
Noise Industries Factory Tools Pro: $579
Avid Xpress Pro: $1695
That’s $3273. If you bought Avid Media Composer Software instead it would balloon to around $7600! Okay, so the Adobe Creative Suite is $1699 for a full site of applications and Final Cut Studio 2 is $1299 plus there is Sony Vegas Pro on the PC side for $584 … there’s got to be other alternatives right? I think what this offering shows more than anything else is the continuous trend toward offering post production tools at a reasonable price. There was a time many years ago when Media 100 systems rivaled Avid in cost and installed base. Many producers and editors swore by it. Today I don’t anyone who is still using it. I would love to see some numbers about how successful Media 100 is under the Boris umbrella. It must be doing something as it’s still being developed. But the way this suite is set up it really requires you to have other editing apps to take full advantage of it. If you are both an Avid, After Effects and Final Cut Pro user then it is quite a score.
Are you a Media 100 user? Do you know anyone who uses Media 100 on a regular basis? If you do then please post a comment below. Let’s see how many Media 100 users we can identify out there.
