“Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has undertaken a thorough review of its overall strategy for HD DVD and has decided it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders. This decision has been made following recent major changes in the market. Toshiba will continue, however, to provide full product support and after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products.”
Official: HD DVD dead and buried, format war is over – Engadget
Well in case you haven’t had eyes on any tech blogs or tech news then there ya go. Goodbye HD DVD and hello to Blu-ray. This is only a good thing as that question of which format to choose has kept most all people I know with a high definition television from adopting one or the other. Besides the Playstation 3 owners I know I can think of only one person who bought the super-cheap Wal-Mart promoted HD DVD player. And out of all the X-Box 360 owners I know not one of them has the HD DVD drive. So good riddance to HD DVD. Long live Blu-ray!
