At Macworld in mid-January, Ciprico introduced its MediaVault 5116 PCI express (PCIe) direct attached storage system. The MediaVault 5116, which supports OS X, is the second member of the MediaVault 5100 series. The new 16 drive system supports capacities of up to 16 terabytes and is based on Ciprico’s RAIDCore technology. It supports both SAS and SATA II drives and can stream up to 1.4GByte/s, supporting two 2K video streams simultaneously. The 5100 package includes a host interface board (HBA), RAIDCore software installed and necessary adapters and cables. Available now. $4199 (5116 starting).
