Hyper Strobe and 18mm VICON Lens Boost Performance and Fidelity of VICON Motion Capture Systems

VICON, developer of Academy Award ®-winning motion capture systems, today announced the Performance Pack comprising a new high powered Hyper Strobe and purpose-built 18mm VICON lens offering VICON motion capture customers more performance, power and fidelity.
The Vicon Performance Pack is designed to enhance VICON motion capture performance for game development studios and visual effects facilities with large systems in place. The Hyper Strobe spreads more light, more evenly across a motion capture volume so that cameras can see further, allowing for easier setup in large stages with smaller markers. The 18mm VICON lens was custom built by VICON specifically for motion capture applications, and together with the Hyper Strobe, allows customers to extend motion capture volumes while decreasing marker sizes yet still yield highly accurate performance data.

“The Performance Pack is a very exciting development, particularly for VICON customers in games, where detailed facial capture and multi-performer shoots are frequent requirements,” said Robin Pengelly, Senior Vice President, Entertainment Division. “With increased camera range, smaller markers can be used to provide more detailed capture data-this more robust marker detection and increased power means that the camera can be operated at faster speeds while retaining optimum image quality.”

Although the Performance Pack consists of the Hyper Strobe and the VICON 18mm lens, both products will also be available individually.

About the Hyper Strobe
  • The Hyper Strobe will be available with visible red LEDs
  • The Hyper Strobe is 2.5 times brighter than standard visible red strobes and 5 times brighter than near infrared strobes, increasing camera range and allowing for smaller marker sizes
  • The LED array has been designed to minimize adjustment of software camera parameters during challenging motion capture setups
  • New front mounted filter for easy removal
About the VICON 18mm Lens
  • First lens purpose-built for motion capture
  • Provides even coverage ensuring that measured marker size remains more constant regardless of where it is seen in an image
  • The lens is backward compatible with all VICON cameras
  • Large aperture provides a great view of small markers with a focal length and image circle ideally suited to VEGAS senor equipped cameras such as the VICON F40 and F20 cameras
