In this article, filmmaker Matthew Clift shares the story of his experience working as a one man crew on a documentary shot in Uganda, Cinderella Children. Personally speaking, I have a great interest anytime someone shares their story working as a one person crew, because this is primarily my own mode of working. However, there is value here for others as well, especially those working with low budgets.
In his writeup, Clift talks specifically about his equipment choices and actual techniques for shooting interviews, scenery, and action shots. Since Clift was working in a foreign environment, his advice takes that element into perspective, as well.
If you’re looking for some inspiration or actual equipment recommendations for a one person crew setup, check Clift’s story out. It’s a valuable read.
