As a bit of a follow up to the discussion on where one might hope Apple goes with the Pro Apps and more specifically the future development of Final Cut Pro, FCP instructor Larry Jordan has posted a letter he recently received on his website. The letter was sent to him by John Bertram and is called The Future of Final Cut: The Two Sacred Paths to Enlightened Software Development? The letter asks some very calm questions about future development in Final Cut Pro and how that development should be balanced between the new, cool features we all know we want and the interface enhancements that many of us feel we desperately need. Here’s a quote from the letter:
Maybe it’s the inevitable Yin and Yang of developing an application like FinalCut. But there’s an interesting dichotomy here (not to mention a resource-allocation dilemma) which I think is worth noting, whenever we talk about ways to make FinalCut “better”. That dichotomy is the ongoing tension between making a Pro App FIERCER (more powerful, more versatile, more rock-solid stable) while also trying to make its interface FRIENDLIER (easier to learn, easier to customize, easier to navigate, etc.).
It seems any mention of Final Cut Pro changing can spark serious debate so it’s nice to read a well written and well thought out piece that doesn’t have a comment window at the bottom! Of course one can place comments here so there ya go. Thanks for publishing the letter Larry.
