Multiple Oscar-winning effects and make-up artist Stan Winston (Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Jurassic Park) is dead. Well-known as a wizard in the fields of make-up effects (Heartbeeps, Edward Scissorhands) and animatronics (Jurassic Park, Congo, AI Artificial Intelligence), Winston’s most recent credits included work on Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit and the now-in-production Terminator 4. He was, of course, the founder of Stan Winston Studios.
According to an entry at Jim Hill’s blog, Winston got his start at Disney, working on Bedknobs & Broomsticks. He was best-known for big VFX films, but genre buffs will also remember him for quality smaller films like Dead and Buried and the Winston directed Pumpkinhead. According to IMDb, he racked up three Oscar wins and nine (!) nominations.
He will be missed.
