The International Cinematographers Guild honored seven emerging filmmakers, who were introduced at a lunch at Kodak Hollywood headquarters on Friday and feted at the Directors Guild of America on Sunday evening when their short films were shown.
ICG president Steven Poster ASC stressed the importance to him and the organization of recognizing up-and-coming talent. “Every year ICG Local 600 has the privilege to honor the best of the new,” he said. “We get to demonstrate the talents of seven exciting cinematographers. We hope this will be the first time of many that you will see these artists on the screen.”
ICG received 60 short films, submitted by members of ICG who are not yet rated as Directors of Photographer. The films were judged by a panel of cinematographers. The winners are “Spring Cleaning” by Layton Blaylock; “The 17th Man” from Josh Ellis;” Jesus Cooks Me Breakfast” from Rachael Levine; “Demption” from Gerry O’Malley; “Noisemaker” from Michael Svitak; “Para-Normal” from Aaron Medick; and “Singularity” from Eduardo Mayen.
The three runners- ups are “Lola” from Suad Kutlug; “Cruel Logic” by James O’Keeffe; and “Love” by Mark Williams.
The award event was sponsored by Kodak, Sony, Panavision, Warner Brothers Photo Lab and Continental Colorcraft.
