What were some of the most important factors you considered in creating

the new True Blue line?

Well, most importantly, we took into account our customers’ comments over the years. The various features and improvements our clients requested were prioritized and many were implemented in our new designs of the True Blue.
At the heart of the True Blue concept is a redesigned stirrup and improved tilt lock. Our clients often use various Chimera or other accessories to modify the light. To make lamphead balance even easier, the stirrup mounting slides can be adjusted to counterbalance all accessories.
We also reduced the lamp housing temperature with ARRI’s cross cooling system.

How have you reduced the weight in the True Blue from previous models?

ARRI’s goal was to maintain a similar overall weight to previous models while adding a double wall cross cooling design to the housing. Additionally, the new extruded aluminum stirrup is stronger, lighter and less bulky than the previous model.

What materials do you use? Aluminum castings and extrusions

Can you explain the cross cooling system in more detail?
The double wall extrusions provide air channels that allow for a constant stream of air to pass around the Fresnel lens and through the lamphead. When the True Blue is tilted either up or down, natural air flow reduces the lens temperature by 17% and housing temperatures by 25% compared to current models. Cross cooling allows ARRI True Blues to safely operate at =/- 90 degrees on most models.

How do you test your lighting for adjustability?
• True Blue units allow for positive positioning of the tilt angle of the light. This is accomplished by a new friction disc design integrated into the tilt handle and lock.
• The position of the spot to flood focus mechanism must be maintained regardless of the tilt angle
• ARRI’s unique stirrup bracket quickly and easily adjusts to the fixtures center of gravity. (This feature is not used on the T1)
• New ARRI barndoors use a special alloy with a high strength to weight ratio to withstand bending and deforming far better than traditional barndoors.

Could you explain the advantages of the new Stegmaier connector?
The Stegmaier Connector offers two cable entry positions. For stand models, the connector is positioned forward. On hanging models, the connector is up and to the rear. This allows for more efficient cable management whether on set, or hanging from a grid.
