Ross Video, Editware, and Renegade Labs Collaborate on Turnkey Edit Suite

You wouldn't necessarily know it from reading the technology trades, but there’s still a market in the video industry for linear editing solutions for HD and SD. Addressing the needs of broadcast and post facilities who still run some linear suites, a trio of companies – Ross Video, Editware (Grass Valley, CA), and Renegade Labs – have contributed products to EditSet.HD and EditSet.HD+, two turnkey approaches to the linear edit suite.
The system employs traditional user interfaces for linear editing while supporting both SDI and HD-SDI with embedded audio. An EditSet.HD suite includes the CrossOver 6 (six-input, two-keyer) SD/HD production switcher from Ross Video, the LE 2004 Linear Plus! (up to four VTRs) edit controller from Editware, and the Gray | 328 digital audio mixer from Renegade Labs. Stepping up to the EditSet.HD+ gets you a CrossOver 12 (12-input, three-keyer) switcher, an LE 2008 Linear Plus! edit controller (up to six VTRs), and a 328|MXE mixer, which keeps the control surface at your fingertips but puts the audio processing in a separate, 3RU chassis that can be stashed in your machine room.

The CrossOver is designed to present a small, 1 MLE control panel with the feel of a larger switcher. It offers dual animation and still stores, a color-wash generator, two channels of 2D DVEs, 10 transition patterns, and the UltraChrome keyer. It has seven outputs, including two HD-SDI program outs, one preview out, three independently configurable auxiliary outs, and one downconverted NTSC/PAL out.

The LE 2000 series of edit controllers is modeled on the Sony BVE style of control panel, offering keystroke access to top-level functions, with subsidiary options displayed on the edit screen. It switches easily between NTSC or PAL and HD at any frame rate and is designed to control VTRs and switchers from all manufacturers. Eight-channel audio recording is a standard feature.

The Gray|328 and 328|MXE mixers are designed to allow users to edit audio the same way the cut video – users cut or transition audio between the two buses just like a video switcher switches between video sources. With eight channels each of AES and analog outputs, the line-up is HD-ready.
