Press Release

Omneon, Inc., today announced that at IBC2008 they will introduce a new 6.1 version of ProCast™ CDN, the high-performance content distribution platform that allows for high-speed, long-distance file transfers over IP networks. ProCast CDN, which has been named as a finalist for both the IABM Peter Wayne award and a Cable & Satellite International award, in version 6.1 offers even greater transfer efficiencies, and integrates more easily and tightly with Omneon storage systems.
Along with the improved integration, which will make ProCast CDN a compelling option both for new and existing Omneon customers, key upgrades include the addition of transfer and delete mode to automate erasure of content from the source device once a transfer is verified; improved allocation of transfer channel bandwidth; and increased protocol efficiency to enable the best use of the network under varied conditions.

“The future of ‘broadcasting’ is about multiple distribution platforms and how to make content instantly available to those platforms,” said Geoff Stedman, Omneon senior vice president for products and markets. “ProCast CDN has already proven itself in the next generation operations – including NBC’s Beijing Olympic coverage in the U.S. where ProCast CDN allowed incredibly fast transfer of material from Beijing to New York. This enabled very fast editing and repurposing of content for terrestrial and cable TV as well as the Web. The latest version of ProCast CDN improves on this solid foundation.”

ProCast CDN is a suite of software products that use advanced WAN acceleration technology, network management, and bandwidth prioritization to enable users to initiate, monitor, and manage transfer of large files between multiple geographic locations more quickly and easily than ever before. With ProCast CDN, files can be sent around the world in minutes, rather than the hours or even days that traditional methods require, because transfer performance is unaffected either by distance or by latency. Built on an open, multiprotocol framework, ProCast CDN can support scalable distribution of content in multiple media formats, using both unicast and multicast protocols, and is the only system capable of utilizing both satellite and terrestrial links.
