I am editing webisodes of a show we created at Robot called Lucky. Nike has commissioned a few episodes for their nikesportswear.com site. The show is pure comedy, so it’s great to be able to laugh and work.
2. What have you found is the best tool or innovation that has come out in the last year?
For me traveling a lot, utilizing Slingbox to do real-time editing across the world. While I was in London working on the Rockcorps show, I was able to edit with Jeff Selis at Room in Santa Monica in real time…it was great.
3. The project (film, television, commercial or music video) that most impressed you in the last year? Why?
I’ve got an answer for all of these. I think it was a great year creatively. With film I think The Academy got it right. No Country For Old Men was amazing storytelling. The Cohen Brothers are geniuses. In television, I know I’m late, but I finally caught all seasons of Extras with Ricky Gervais…so funny. I just saw a commercial today, “Nike Fate,” another great example of storytelling. For music video, there is a trilogy of T-Pain videos by directing collective Syndrome. These have amazing graphics with a strong narrative connection to the lyrics, its just sick.
4. The best or favorite project that you worked on in the past year? And why?
A documentary I’ve been working about basketball player Lenny Bias. Doing something that is non-fiction, you’re working in a whole different realm creatively. It’s a new kind of storytelling that is very liberating. It’s not about trying to create story arc or character developments. It’s about finding them.
5. Name the top 4 artists on your iPod?
Wale
U2
