Compresses High-Quality HD at 30 Mbps and Lower

Streambox released the SBT3-9200 HD/SD Video Transport Encoder, designed to zip up 1080i, 1080psf, and 720p video at manageable bit rates for delivery via IP networks. Using Streambox’s ACT-L3 codec, the unit compresses video to 30 Mbps at a quality level that company officials call “exceptional,” citing a study of codecs by the nonprofit Research Channel, which described waveform samples from the SBT3-9200 as “virtually indistinguishable” from uncompressed HD.
The 9200 is aimed at a variety of users, including post houses and video editors who use compressed video files for review-and-approval applications as well as newsgathering and broadcast operations.

The 9200 can be used in HD mode to produce video at data rates ranging from 256 Kbps to 30 Mbps, or in SD mode for video from 64 Kbps to 15 Mbps. Each unit has dual Gigabit Ethernet ports (one port may be used as a management port), and can output HD and SD video simultaneously from a single HD source. It’s designed for easy integration with the rest of the Streambox product lineup, including the Store and Forward Server and the Media Station play-out device.
