Jazzmutant announced price drops and Lemur V2 at this year’s NAMM. The V2 software upgrade for the Lemur takes the controller to another level of control, flexibility and intuitive operation. V2 comes packed with new objects and features that let users truly interact with sound and manipulate it in real time. Workflow improvements, scripting additions and other features allow the controller to be used better, faster and more in tune with some of the most popular software applications around. Ableton Live users, in particular, will benefit from these new features. To celebrate the arrival of V2, Jazzmutant is slashing the prices of both Lemur and Dexter. A V2-powered Lemur will be reduced to EUR/$1769 ( £1,660) for a limited 60-day period, which started January 15. DAW users who want to get their hands on Dexter’s multitouch technology but have no need for the modular/configurable approach of the Lemur, also have reason to be happy as Jazzmutant will offer the Dexter as a DAW-only controller at the heavily (and permanently) reduced price of just EUR/$1519 ( £1,430). While crossgrading from Dexter to Lemur will no longer be possible, the crossgrade from Lemur to Dexter remains an option. www.jazzmutant.com
A completely novel type of transducer and an innovative ear cup design are two of the key design features of Sennheiser’s new top-of-the-range HD 800 headphones introduced at Winter NAMM 2009. This audiophile model, which is sure to remind users of the company’s legendary Orpheus headphones, offers brilliant sound imaging and impressive spatiality through the use of a 56mm sound transducer – currently the largest to be found in any dynamic headphones – and an ear cup design that directs sound waves to the ear at a slight angle. The vibrating part of the diaphragm is not a circular surface area, but a ring that is able to set the entire air volume over the transducer into motion, generating the full-bodied sound of the HD 800. This design, patented by Sennheiser, translates into purer headphone sound at lower frequencies. Available now. $1,399.95 (MSRP) www.sennheiserusa.com
