Making HD Easy

Why did you decide to launch a royalty-free footage site?

We saw the need for affordable web accessible HD content for the mobile market. There is a high demand for content in the mobile media space ‘ for use in productions such as PodCasts and webisodes – and top quality is expected, yet budgets are smaller. With this combination of needs and restraints, we developed footagehead.com to provide for this market. The majority of clips are first time content created with the new mobile HD camcorders.

How do you keep the prices so low and consistent? ($300 across the board)

The $300 flat fee is a key feature of footagehead.com. Our research told us that clients want fast easy access to affordable current content for their media projects. With typical footage sites, pricing is often confusing for customers’ clips have different lengths and different prices which means more time spent determining whether or not you can afford what you are seeing. With footagehead.com clients know all clips are around 10 seconds long and it is the $300 price no matter what they select. In addition we did significant market research before determining that price which is lower than most other HD downloadable options. And remember, it is royalty free so you pay for it once and use it in as many projects as you like.

Do you have any footage shot on RED? Are you looking to go in that direction?

Yes, we have formed the RED Footage Collective in partnership with the Digital Cinema Society, and will showcase RED-acquired clips by the middle of this year. Because RED is so affordable and versatile, we are receiving very creative shots from cinematographers around the world.

Are there other footage categories you’re planning to expand into?

Yes. One of the new areas we are expanding into is in process plates which are in high demand from our TV and film clients. We have a crew traveling across the US capturing these background moving plates.

Will you have other new releases around NAB?

Definitely and we look forward to keeping you posted.
