In a move that unites some of the most recognizable editorial talent in the industry, Beast, one of the country’s top editorial facilities for commercials, feature films, television dramas, music videos and web virals, had substantially all of its assets acquired by Ascent Media Group, a leading provider of fully integrated, end-to-end services for the global digital media supply chain. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
With offices in New York, Santa Monica, other major U.S. markets and international virtual outposts, Beast serves a global clientele with a roster of established, award-winning editors and up-and-coming talent. Complementing Beast’s lineup is Ascent’s existing base of premier editorial talent at Filmcore, which includes Doug Walker, as well as Lucas Eskin and Michael Elliot, who joined last month. Since opening its doors in 2006, Beast has built an impressive and varied body of work, including films such as “For One More Day” for Harpo Films, and commercials including Cannes winner “Butcher” for AT&T, as well as projects for Reebok, Southwest Airlines, Toyota, BMW, Norwegian Cruise Lines, USAF, and Linkin Park.

“There is no doubt that the world, and more specifically our business, is undergoing changes of seismic proportions,” said Valerie Petrusson, Managing Partner at Beast. “This alliance allows us to take advantage of Ascent’s global reach and scale and better positions us to lead our clients through the technology and business model challenges ahead.”

“The addition of Beast underscores our intent to enhance the best editorial offering in the industry. Beast brings a wealth of expertise and experience, which will help us better respond to the shifting dynamics in the market and accelerate our strategic efforts to extend our services into broad, multi-platform, post-production solutions,” said Jose Royo, CEO of Ascent Media.

Igor Kovalik, Co-founder and Editor at Beast, said one of the things that attracted him to Ascent was the reputation of its post-production and visual effects facilities, which include Company 3 and Method. “Beast has always operated as an intimate creative environment. We focus on meeting our clients’ needs with care and precision. To ensure that the level of quality remains consistent, Beast’s editors stay involved throughout the post-production process,” he said. “We remain committed to providing the highest level of quality to clients who are accustomed to nothing less. The people at Ascent share our commitment and passion. The company’s entrepreneurial spirit and culture was a key factor in us forming this relationship.”
