With its official product launch at IBC 2009, the SCANITY offers an unprecedented feature set including; Time Delay Integration (TDI) sensor technology for extremely fast and sensitive film scanning – 4K scanning up to 15 fps, 2K scanning up to 25 fps. A precision roller gate and a continuous motion capstan film transport avoids mechanical stress and provides unparalleled smooth, and safe film handling, which makes SCANITY also ideal for archiving, and restoration scanning projects. IR illuminated perforation detection provides “touch-free” optical pin registration for high image steadiness. Integrated and dedicated spatial image processing manages the scaling and formatting before the material is stored on local or centralized storage. The SCANITY uses efficient LED light sources with a specific selection of spectral wavelengths that are switchable depending on the film stock and for matching to the correct colorimetry of film dyes. Another benefit to LEDs is long life and low operational cost.
OptiPin is a film guidance and image stabilization option for the Spirit 4K/2K/HD DataCine and Film Scanners using optical pin registration. The OptiPin solution addresses the major difference between film scanning systems – the type of film transport. A capstan-driven film transport provides real-time and gentle film handling and can accommodate shrunken film or damaged perforations. Pin-registered film transports are slower and place stress on the film by forcing pins into the perforations. The new OptiPin solution merges the advantages of both types of transport methods resulting in stability that is comparable to frame-by-frame pin-registered transport with real-time, continuous motion “touch-free” capstan methods. “Touch-free” handling means that no mechanical registration pins touch the film, making the OptiPin option an ideal solution for both new and delicate film stocks.
