Apple released the new Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Pro 7 a little over a week ago and a large majority of FCP’s closest hardware add-ons and software plug-ins have wasted no time in providing support for this new release. Here’s a round-up of some of the most common hardware and software products for Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Pro and their current support for the new release.
AJA has announced Kona support for the new Final Cut Studio. This is maybe the most important update as Kona cards are the backbone of a lot of post workflows.
I didn’t see any specific announcement about FCP 7 support on Blackmagic Design’s site but according to this post from July 23 (and a response from Blackmagic) on Creative COW “Current driver already work with it but we need to put in some presets for the new codecs that the new version supports.” There you go.
According to this post in the Matrox MXO2 user forums the company doesn’t officially support FCS 2009 / FCP 7 yet but some users are working with the product without many problems.
Automatic Duck has “New updates for Pro Import FCP and Pro Export FCP make them compatible with Final Cut Pro 7.” You can grab them from the support page.
Red Giant Software has posted a Final Cut Studio 3 Compatibility Page that includes a table about compatibility for their software.
CoreMelt wasted little time in issuing an update to their new V2 line of products that included Final Cut Pro 7 and Motion 4 compatibility.
If you look a few lines down on the Noise Industries home page they say: “Enjoy the latest version of Final Cut Studio without hesitation: all FxFactory filters, generators and transitions work inside Final Cut Pro 7 and Motion 4.” I’m guessing that means the 3rd party developers who use the FxFactory engine are compatible as well but looking at several of the developer’s website they don’t specifically mention compatibility. I tested several of the FxFactory plug-ins and they all worked.
PluralEyes, the automatic multicamera sync software has a minor update for FCP 7. “Updates have been posted for both version 1.0 and version 1.1 beta. If you’ve already downloaded a version, it should offer to update your copy the next time you run it.”
And finally, Digital Rebellion has updated FCS Remover for compatibility with Final Cut Studio 2009 so if you don’t like your upgrade then use this tool to remove it!
Does your hardware or software product support the new Final Cut Studio? If so them please post in the comments below.
