Inexpensive Swiss-Army-Knife Transcoder Adds One More HD Format to its Feature Set

Pegasys updated its popular and inexpensive video transcoding software, TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress ($99.95), by adding 1080p DivX HD support. The upgrade is free to users already running version 4.0; upgrades from v3.0 are $59.95. Sorry, Mac users – it's Windows-only.
The company says TMPGEnc accepts input from “almost any video file” – including FLV, AVCHD, and DVD-Video – and encodes to a wide variety of file formats, including DivX, AVI, QuickTime, MPEG4, H.264. DVD-Video, HDV, and Blu-ray. It also features a simple editing tool and a range of video filters and effects.

For users with compatible GPUs, TMPGEnc works with Nvidia’s CUDA technology. It also offers optional support ($49.95) for Toshiba’s SpursEngine microprocessor for MPEG-2 and H.264 encoding acceleration.
