Press Release
New EditShare Flow features debuted at IBC09 include the ability to make Avid or Final Cut sub-clips during ingest, real-time live logging with customizable metadata fields and logging templates. In addition, EditShare Flow will offer an EditShare Media Space Scan feature that indexes content ingested outside of Flow; optimizing media searches and management across an EditShare media space.
“We have a number of EditShare customers who are using the new Flow capabilities in a wide range of workflows. Big Brother South Africa is using Flow for their 24/7 production over a three month period. The entirely tapeless workflow is a first for Big Brother and the workflow engineered capabilities of Flow have made it possible for them to make the leap; effectively managing a massive amount of content while streamlining the pre and post production tasks,” said James Richings, Flow Product Manager, EditShare EMEA. “For just about any production, capabilities such as live logging with pre-made templates and Avid and Final Cut sub clip creation make an enormous difference especially when you are shooting with many cameras over a long period of time. The post sessions are much more manageable with pre-editing starting at ingest and content fully online and easily searchable.”
The new EditShare Flow Live Logger function offers a simple interface with rapid one-click logging and customizable metadata fields that can be saved as templates for repeated use. The new capability is ideal for productions such as live sporting events and reality TV shows that repeatedly log the same types of information during ingest sessions. Users can create customized metadata fields such as contestant names or sports players, standardize words that describe actions and story lines, and save these configurations as a template for future use. Standardizing data capture makes logging more concise and searches much more efficient as data is well cataloged.
NEW Flow Create Avid and Final Cut Sub Clips
By logging with Flow, editors can easily create Avid and Final Cut sub clips as part of the pre-editing process; accelerating production and optimizing media management workflows. Coupled with the Flow Live Logger feature, sub clip creation can begin even when ingest is in progress. All log entries are instantly searchable in the Flow Browse application.
NEW Flow EditShare Media Space Scanning
Expanding the media management workflow toolset is the new Flow Scan feature. Flow Scan looks at an existing EditShare media space and scans for clips captured outside of Flow. Detected clips are automatically brought into the Flow database, catalogued for searches and a proxy clip is generated. With media well organized and indexed, searches across the EditShare Media Space are much more efficient. Content is more accessible as it can be viewed in proxy format over a standard network connection via Flow Browse. There is no need to tie up an edit bay to review materials.
Flow supports an extensive range of codecs and wrappers including Avid and QuickTime formats. Flow’s ability to encode simultaneously in 2 high resolution formats and a proxy eliminates the need for background transcoding and proxy generation after capture. With Flow all encoding is done at time of capture.
