It’s that time of year again … not the Thanksgiving season or the busy holiday shopping season but time for editors everywhere to think about attending the Editor’s Retreat. This annual event (which I believe is now in its 4th or 5th year) is 4 days and 3 nights of seminars, presentations and general meet, greet and networking for experienced, working editors. From the Editor’s Retreat website:
An intensive, interactive environment for TV, video and film editors that fosters creativity and the exchange of ideas at the highest level. Featuring:
- Four Days of Sessions in Multiple Tracks.
- Award-Winning Keynote Speakers.
- Daily Social Networking with Experts.
- Numerous Prizes.
I’ve never attended the event (though I do plan to at some point in the future) but I know several editors that have and they have all said the experience was extremely valuable. It’s not open to just anyone who wants to get a goodie bag as you have to submit a resume and possibly a demo reel to be accepted. And it’s not cheap either as the prices hover around $2,000 depending on your choice of rooms. But there’s really no other event like this that is dedicated entirely to the editing professional. This year’s retreat is being held in Miami Beach so that might make the event more affordable to many since it wouldn’t require an international flight, as in to Mexico or a southern, tropical climate. There’s a schedule for this year’s retreat posted and it really feels like a mini-NAB dedicated to the editor … without a trade show. Click on over for details on just how to apply.
