Press Release

NAB announced today that the finale of the 2009 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) will take place during the upcoming NAB Show, held April 10-15 in Las Vegas. Titled Filmapalooza, the three-day event will honor the winning films submitted by 48HFP participants in 2009. The competition, established in 2001, promotes filmmaking and creativity by providing filmmakers with a character, prop and line of dialogue and giving them two days to write, shoot and edit their film.

“As the world’s largest electronic media event, the NAB Show showcases all aspects of the content lifecycle, including some of the most compelling and innovative technology that is shaping the film industry of today,” said Chris Brown, executive vice president of conventions and business operations at NAB. “We are proud that our partnership with the 48 Hour Film Project has been such an excellent fit, and we look forward to hosting an event that has enriched the lives of so many aspiring filmmakers.”

NAB Show organizers and the 48HFP launched the 2009 competition during last year’s NAB Show. During the 2010 NAB Show, competition winners from over 70 cities worldwide will screen their films for hundreds of viewers and filmmakers. An awards ceremony held Monday, April 12, will honor the winning team with a grand prize of $3000, a Panasonic HPX170 camera and a trophy.

Registration for the event is $25.00. Click here to register online.

About the 48 Hour Film Project
The 48 Hour Film Project is the oldest and largest timed film competition in the world. Its mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers-emphasizing creativity and teamwork. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on “doing” instead of “talking.” The emphasis is also on building communities of local creative people, facilitating making new connections, showcasing skills, and celebrating what creativity and teamwork can accomplish in just one weekend.
