A few weeks ago I posted about a new developer that joined the Noise Industries FxFactory program. That company is Phyx and its first product, Phyx Keyer is a greenscreen keying tool. The company is back with its second product called Phyx Color. The tag line on itswebsite, “take control of color,” may be a bit misleading to Final Cut Studio users, as it’s not a plug-in for the Color application inside Final Cut but rather a series of five filters that generate custom looks. These five include Bleachbypass, Glowdark, Selective Saturation, Shift/Suppress and Techni2strip. These tools aren’t really designed for full primary and secondary grading options but rather they offer simple controls to change and tweak the image with a more specific style in mind. Most of the controls feature just a few options and easily allow for some custom looks. Particularly interesting is the Techni2strip. From the Phyx Color website:
This processor simulates the Technicolor 2-strip process first introduced as the Technicolor System 1 Additive Color Projection in 1917, Technicolor processes were made extremely popular through films such as; ‘Gone With the Wind’, ‘Ben-Hur’, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, etc. Techni2Strip authentically simulates the vintage process.
The tool costs $99 and a free demo is included in the latest Fx Factory download. Check out a tutorial video for more in depth information.
