Former Cinesite supervisor to oversee construction of an expanded 3D pipeline.

Continuing to lure top international talent to South Australia, Rising Sun Pictures has appointed Kevin Campbell to its senior creative team as Head of 3D. Formerly with Cinesite, London, Campbell will manage the growth of RSP’s 3D department as the company proceeds with ambitious plans to add production capacity, extend capabilities and cement its position among the upper echelon of visual effects producers worldwide.
Campbell, whose background also includes supervisory posts with Framestore and The Mill in London, is the latest pro with international experience and sterling film credits to join RSP’s senior team. (Albert Mason, formerly with Sony Pictures Imageworks, was named Head of Production last month.) Campbell has worked on two films that have won Academy Awards for Visual Effects, Gladiator and The Golden Compass. His credits also include The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time; X-Men Origins: Wolverine and several titles in the Harry Potter series.

“We are building a team whose experience and talent is on par with the best visual effects providers in Hollywood and London,” said Rising Sun Pictures CEO Michael Taylor. “Our location is proving to be a strong draw card for experienced artists which is allowing us to compete with anyone for the industry’s largest and most challenging projects.”

Campbell said that he was impressed with RSP’s growth plans and sees the company as an example of the globalization of the visual effects industry. “In the last few years, visual effects work has become less centered in traditional areas,” he observed. “The work has spread around the world, and it will continue to do so. RSP is ideally positioned to capitalize on that trend.”

Campbell served as Head of CG Technical Operations at Cinesite, London, since 2004. He spent three years on staff at MillFilm, London, and a year at Framestore.
