If you follow StudioDaily on Twitter (and please do — we’re @studiodaily) you may have seen us link on Monday to this expert, awe-inspiring collection of time-lapse footage by Tom Lowe, who is working on “a modern portrait of the American Southwest.” It’s definitely made the rounds in the blogosphere and Tweetspace, but the images are so striking, and have resonated so strongly with other cinematographers, that it seems worth a little extra attention here.

While you’ve got time-lapse photography on your mind, make sure to read Tyler Ginter’s excellent blog entry about his experience helping with two of the shots, plus a ton of great advice for anyone else considering making their own miniature time-lapsed epics. Also worth a look is Lowe’s own Twitter feed, @timescapes, where he dishes about what he’s been up to lately — shooting time-lapse for a new film from Koyaanisqatsi director Godfrey Reggio and trying to lay some groundwork for a potential IMAX film shoot in China!
