Here’s a nice little video diversion for the movie fans out there on Oscar weekend. It’s a video profile of veteran and award-winning Foley artist Gary Hecker (just check out his IMDB profile!). What does a Foley artist do? If you don’t already know or don’t want to read the Wikipedia entry then in short, a Foley artist is the person who creates, times and performs all of those amazing movie sounds you hear in the background. Sometimes they provide atmosphere, sometimes they might be pivotal to the plot. It really is a fascinating profession this video is a great look into how they sounds are made.
