Therapy's New Film Division Follows Recently Launched Interactive Division

West Los Angeles, CA: Film producer Kelly Slattery recently joined Therapy Studios as EP of their new feature film division. Therapy, which began in 2005 as an editorial and finishing company, recently launched an interactive division that has been doing online projects such as micro-sites, banner campaigns and games. Now the move into feature films opens up Therapy’s award-winning talent and technical resources to long-form projects for editorial, color, visual effects, graphics, trailers and interactive work.
“I’d like Therapy to have one or two films in here at a time; working on some aspect of the feature, be it editorial, visual effects, audio premixes or 5.1 final mixes or trailers,” says Slattery, Executive Producer, Film Division at Therapy. “Therapy is one of the few facilities on the Westside that has everything under one roof. However it has a much more expansive color capability than any other house of its kind. We now are going to make it much more feature friendly than ever before.”

Feature films have come through Therapy’s doors before. Editors Fernando Villena and Doobie White teamed up to edit Jonah Hex, Gamer and Crank 2 while Meg Ramsay along with White cut Therapy’s own feature-length documentary Transcendent Man, which just released both Theatrically and via iTunes and Cable movies-on-demand (Retail DVD releases May 24th). To handle the influx of projects the dedicated film division (as well as their successful commercial division) will bring, three new suites will be constructed at the West L.A. facility. The first – an Avid edit bay – goes live next month and will be outfitted to cut spots and films in 3D.

“Our editors love to work on features, as well as commercials, so it seemed natural for us to expand into more long form work in all aspects of our offerings.” says Therapy Executive Producer Joe DiSanto. “We wanted to diversify for creative reasons and for a more balanced business overall. When we are working on a feature editorially, we’ll be able to do visual effects, design, trailers and other aspects for it. Working together with Kelly, who has tremendous rapport in the feature world, allows us to bring in more of that business.”

Slattery began her career through her music, writing for and placing her songs on various feature films and Studios programs. Since then her extensive industry contacts and experience have led her to producing films such as Down for Life, starring Danny Glover and Snoop Dogg, which premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, Cougar’s Inc, starring Denise Richards, James Belushi and Kathryn Morris, to be released theatrically this spring and House of the Rising Sun, to be released in late 2011. She’s currently working on Keep Coming Back (to be directed by William H. Macy), Sex Ed and Dead Man’s Gold. Her company, Monknboo Productions finances, produces and sells motion pictures.

“The energy and ambiance at Therapy is so vibrant yet so relaxing,” Slattery says. “It’s the right place for me, and I know it is the right place for my feature film clients.”
