Product portfolio to include new high-speed interface for storage

ATTO Technology, Inc., a global leader of storage connectivity and infrastructure solutions for data-intensive computing environments, today announced its support for Intel’s Thunderbolt™ technology. Prosumer and Professional storage providers offering storage for demanding post-production and broadcast applications that require managed latency and data protection while maintaining stream counts can explore Thunderbolt connectivity solutions at ATTO’s stand at IBC 2011 held September 9-13 at the RAI Conference Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Hall 7, stand F41.
For years, typical eSATA, USB 2.0 and FireWire interface performance has maxed out at approximately 200 MB/s. Combining ATTO innovation with Thunderbolt technology gives prosumer and professional editors the ability to achieve performance levels up to 1000 MB/s of bandwidth. In addition, performance of this magnitude has been out of reach for laptop and all-in-one users looking to edit multiple streams of uncompressed HD video. ATTO’s Thunderbolt solution allows them to achieve speeds closer to those attained on desktop workstations.

“Thunderbolt is an exciting proposition,” said Timothy J. Klein, president and CEO at ATTO Technology, Inc. “It offers up to 10Gb performance to platforms that traditionally have not had access to this level of bandwidth, including laptops. We are committed to ensuring that RAID and storage connectivity products are available to providers that need them.”

ATTO FastStream™ 3800 series RAID Storage Controllers provide Thunderbolt™ technology to SAS/SATA HHD or SSD drives. Ideally suited to be embedded into four to eight drive enclosures, the FastStream RAID Storage Controller enables high performance with managed latency while providing JBOD or RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 protection. Additionally, ATTO’s Advanced Data Streaming™ (ADS) latency management technology provides smooth data streaming to maintain the highest consistent performance, while DriveAssure™ keeps drives running longer, offers full performance during drive rebuilds and immediate access to storage while initializing a RAID set, giving users the most out of their Thunderbolt connection.

ATTO ThunderBridge™ 1800 series Thunderbolt technology products use ATTO’s intelligent Bridging Architecture™ to enable basic, cost sensitive plug-and-play connectivity products with low overhead to SAS/SATA HHD, SSD or Tape drives. When embedded in 1, 2 or 4 drive enclosures, the ThunderBridge enables high speed connectivity to these devices without the need for user intervention.

“ATTO is well positioned to offer advanced building blocks for Thunderbolt technology-enabled storage,” said Jason Ziller, director of Thunderbolt marketing at Intel. “Mobile media creators and SMB customers will continue to have more storage solution choices as companies like ATTO continue to innovate.”

ATTO’s history of providing Mac ® users access to high performance connectivity solutions continues with this new feature. As all new Macs feature Thunderbolt, ATTO remains dedicated to making the latest technology available to this market.
“As the leader in storage connectivity for the media and entertainment market, ATTO understands the needs of our users and is proud to give Thunderbolt providers access to our technical expertise,” added Klein.
