Sunset Gower Studios Location Aims to Better Serve Canon Users in Film and Television

On Wednesday, Canon opened the doors of a brand new facility aimed at its users in film and television. The Canon Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center is located inside the Sunset Gower Studios lot, originally founded by Harry Cohn, at 6060 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The facility plans to offer "comprehensive product repair," starting later this year, for the many Canon 5Ds and 7Ds now in wide use throughout production. Canon says two state-of-the-art camera body and lens adjustment rooms, calibration equipment, a vast spare parts inventory and experienced staff will support those efforts. Live workshops and training sessions are also expected to be part of the mix.
Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A., explained in a prepared statement, “We want to offer a one-stop shop where our clients can come to ask questions and explore our various products with the help of our highly qualified technical and engineering staff members."

The new center will also act as the Los Angeles arm of Canon’s Research and Solution Engineering Department, which will conduct intensive one-on-one meetings with studios, production houses, networks and rental facilities and engage them in beta-testing potential new upgrades or even new cameras.

The company also has plans to make a major technology announcement with a weekend-long press event in Hollywood on November 3, signaling that this is just the first stage in a much wider effort to reach out to professional production community concentrated on the West coast.
