A New Spot Makes the Case for Buying Used

If a new Land Rover is out of the question this holiday, the latest spot for the car manufacturer makes a pretty good case for buying used. “Running,” spearheaded by Young & Rubicam Creative Director Steve Whittier, directed by Pretty Bird’s Paul Hunter and edited by Steve Gandolfi and Joel Miller at Cut & Run, delivers its message by showing how the ideal “pre-owner” takes as good care of himself as he does of his SUV.
The editors keep the pace moving from the near silent opening of a man running through a pristine natural setting to the rock-n-roll finish. MPC’s Mark Gethin, working in the Los Angeles office and Alex Lovejoy, in the New York office, set the mood with burnished ochers, deep greens and silvery grays that work equally well, like the car itself, in the middle of the forest and in a suburban neighborhood. Cut & Run’s Miller also collaborated with Sound Lounge’s Philip Loeb and Georgia Dodson on the sound design.
