Weisscam, known for its high-speed cameras, will use NAB 2012 to offer a limited-release 16 mm production bundle that combines a newly reengineered "SOHA" T-CAM with three of ARRI's Ultra 16 lenses. T-CAMs, shaped like the letter "T," record high-speed images from 1-360 fps out to uncompressed RAW or HD (4:2:2 and 4:4:4). In March Weisscam announced that all of its new T-CAMs would be built on a SOHA platform that includes an interchangeable sensor board (2/3-inch; Super16 and Super35 format), a high-performance interface (up to 1.200MByte/s) for recorders, uncompressed RAW and HD output, and a modular software architecture.
The new platform, says Director of Photography Stefan Weiss, Weisscam's CEO, will let users switch to the latest sensor technology without having to buy a new camera. Weiss also says the weight of the production bundle (3 kilos or 6.6. lbs.) and full feature set, including a T-Stop of T1.3 and shallow depth of field, make it ideal for regular handheld or mounted high-speed shooting as well as for 3D production.
